The most natural and healthy way to favour your baby

Swaddling provides

relaxation and aiding
sleep, while encouraging
healthy development

HappyBabyDays recovers the age-old tradition of swaddling, to favour babies in their new life as they transition from the mother’s womb.

Swaddling or wrapping newborn babies has been a common practice in many cultures, the result of a traditional wisdom that silently contained an endless series of physical and emotional benefits for babies.

The art of swaddling has made a comeback today in answer to a world full of new external stimuli, that distance us from baby’s true needs.

A newborn baby remembers and misses the sensations of being inside mommy’s womb, and has a deep need to feel snugly cocooned. Swaddling offers the possibility of giving our child the gift of a calm transition towards the outside world. It provides our baby with cosy warmth, with delicate care, gently wrapping, cocooning and calming. This promotes a feeling of relaxation and security that leads baby to sleep like an angel.

But this is not all: the development of many of baby’s organic functions must continue after birth, which means that providing a caring environment with qualities that mimic the womb will allow baby to continue growing adequately.

Angel Enveloper©

It is the most user-friendly and practical way to
enable your child to sleep like an angel.

Angel Enveloper© is a traditional wrapping adapted to modern times.

Thanks to its design in the form of a sleeping bag with angel wings, it is the easiest and most user-friendly way to practice the art of swaddling, by following some simple steps:

Position baby,

Spread the Angel Enveloper out on a surface, with the wings and “reverse zip” completely open. Place baby inside with arms slightly bent (in their natural position, never forced) over the body, then zip the sleeping bag closed.

Wrap baby up
Option 1

Cover baby’s body with the left wing
and adjust the swaddling with the right wing until fastened into place using the velcro strips. You can adjust the delicate snugness depending on how you see your baby most relaxed.

Wrap baby up
Option 2

If you feel that baby needs room for arm-stretching or thumb-sucking, you can pass baby’s arms through the two side openings, keeping them free of swaddling.

Swaddling Blanket

It is the most natural and versatile protection
for your child to sleep peacefully

HappyBabyDays Swaddling Blankets are designed to provide traditional swaddling, in the most user-friendly way possible. Historically and culturally, different types of swaddling have been practiced, all focused on seeking baby’s wellbeing and calm. You can look to find out which works best for you and your baby.

Position baby, naturally

Spread the Swaddling Blanket on a flat surface so that you have a square before you. Fold the upper edge of the square inwards, leaving a fold of about 10 cm. Place baby in the center, head outside the blanket, just above the fold, with arms slightly bent (in their natural position, never forced).

Wrap baby up

Hold one of the baby’s arms and cover it with the corresponding point of the blanket towards the opposite side, until it is tucked under the body. Regulate the snugness based on your own judgement.
Do the same with the opposite side.

Fold the remaining excess fabric at the lower part over baby’s body and with the two leftover points, finally fasten the wrapping by tucking it under the body. You can gauge the delicate snugness of the swaddling, depending on how you see your baby most relaxed.

Note: If you see that your baby is calmed by thumb-sucking and needs to do it, you can leave baby’s right arm outside the swaddling.

Some tips and considerations regarding swaddling

The swaddling is designed so that baby is always lying face up. Lying baby down on one side, or face down, can be dangerous.

Check baby’s temperature regularly. A swaddled child retains body heat better. A thin layer of clothing will be sufficient.

Some babies need to be rocked after swaddling. This is a way of telling you that they need your presence.

Swaddling with the arms inside the blanket must be discontinued as soon as baby starts wanting to turn around (this can vary between 3 and 6 months). However, many babies love being swaddled and feeling snug during a much longer time. It is always possible to practice swaddling leaving baby’s arms outside the blanket. Your child is the best person to guide you here. Simply remember to bear in mind any aspects that may affect your baby’s safety.

Be very careful when opening the velcro (Angel Enveloper). Remember that babies are very sensitive to noise. We should try to take great care when we expose them to any sensory impressions.

The most important point in ensuring that swaddling fulfils its function is your attitude as a mother: your gestures of understanding, love and your desire to help and comfort your child, is what you baby truly needs.
